Offense rarely announces itself as a trap. It comes as a careless word from a friend, a decision that seemed unfair, or a moment when we felt ignored. It feels justified, and sometimes it is. Something wrong really may have been done to us.

But the danger of offense is not only in what was done. It is in what we do next. Offense invites us to replay the moment and slowly build a wall between ourselves and the other person. Left unattended, it grows into bitterness, which quietly steals our peace and joy.

Proverbs offers a different path. There is glory, real honour, in choosing to overlook an offense. This does not mean pretending nothing happened or ignoring serious wrongs. It means refusing to let one moment control our hearts.

Jesus was misunderstood, betrayed and falsely accused, yet He did not carry offense. He entrusted Himself to the Father and forgave. The same grace He showed us, He now works in us.
